will the world end 2012 im scared?
ok my little 8 yr old brother is fraking out his life is gonna end in 2012 please someone tell me its not gonna end so i can calm my little brother down its very sad to have to think of death so young.
It's just hype some unscrupulous people have amplified to sell books and DVDs. Since your brother is 8, he won't remember 1999. Well, I do, and there was an insane amount of panic and hysteria about the turn of the millennium. In that case, people were worried that all of our computers would crash and send the world into economic chaos. Well, it didn't happen...but there are still people who are OBSESSED with the idea of global apocalypse. The people who got so worked up about the year 2000 are the exact same ones trying to cause a panic about the year 2012. And when 2013 rolls around, no doubt these same people will start preaching about the coming apocalypse in 2025 or 2050 (or whenever)*.
Another example from history: A LOT of people thought 1666 was going to be the end of the world...and yet, here we are, laughing at them.
The take-home point of this is that NO one, in the history of humanity, has been able to foresee events in the future. Time moves in 1 direction only. We only have access to the past.
*To say nothing of the back-pedalling excuses..."well, we never said 'apocalypse', we were simply referring to a 'big change' which DID happen...remember when the new iPod picos came out in December of 2012? That's what this was all about. We weren't wrong"...instead of admitting their ignorance. We're not dealing with honest, intelligent people here.

End of the world 2012
Why do people keep answering "Will the world end in 2012?"?
There are so many deserving questions that get deleted with no answers. Yet every time the Mayan stupidity gets mentioned, it get deluged with dozens of answers. Some credulous, some well thought out and sceptical, some well argued, others humourous.
But why do people bother answering at all, when the same question has already been answered hundreds of times on this site?
Because a few of the people who ask these questions are truly frightened and need a word or two of peace and advice.
If only one out of ten of these answers calms a frightened person just a little bit then all ten were worth it.
