This big bang experiment happeing tonight! Potentially a shower of black holes will be created! If this happens, nothing will happen for 4 years. Then after 4 years the black holes will begin swallowing the world! Think... 4 years from now, 2008, is 2012. 2012 is the year that the mayans predicted the end of the world, more specifically December of 2012. 4 years from now is 2012 and very close to december!!! All it is is an astrological calendar, which is ending it's cycle, so why do people insist it's the apocalypse. I mean the calendar can't go on forever!? And how could anyone predict the end of the world?? There's no proof and no possible way, can someone give me a real reason to believe in this scam?
There is always a bunch of cranks going round predicting the end of the world every few years. A history of unremitting failure doesn't deter them because they are desperate for your attention. They have 'important information' which you should know and which the 'government' is trying to cover up. In reality, they haven't the faintest idea about science and all their predictions can be shown to be false by anyone in possession of two or more brain cells.
Some of these cranks may be genuinely mentally ill and in need of help but worse still, a bunch of crooks have latched on to their rantings as an opportunity to make money from the more simple-minded in society by selling them useless survival guides and equipment.
After the world fails to end in 2012, the next date will be set at 2018 or 2020. Not too far ahead or people won't be interested. Just enough time to get the new books and DVDs about the latest 'end times prophecy' on sale. And don't forget the movie.

The world is supposed to end on 21st December 2012 because of the end of the Mayan calendar. This calendar lasts certain amount of years and stops in December of 2012.

One of several Mayan calendars is the Long Count calendar, which is reset to day 0 every 1,872,000 days or 7057.5 years. The next reset date, by some calculations, is December 21, 2012. This is not a prediction of the end of the world.
These predictions are scare tactics, conspiracy theories, and chances to make money from books and movies.
Ever since the Y2K and 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) End of the World scenarios did not pan out, the scare mongers, conspiracy theorists, book sellers, and television executives have been touting the 2012 End of the World scenario. When 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else.

Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.
The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. Only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.
The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus' advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.
Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time.

Why do people think that the world will end 2012 based on the mayan calendar?
The calendar had to end some time right? Think about how long it took just to make a calendar to 2012. Dont you think they where getting pretty bored of it. Or and they could have stopped when there empire collapsed because they had better stuff to do.
It's just a bunch of crackpots, looking for an excuse for their latest end of the world nonsense. After 2012 passes without incident, the Mayans will be forgotten as the next 'ancient prediction' is unearthed. It's a tedious, never-ending cycle.
