is 2012 really the end of the world

Is the world gonna really end in 2012?
I heard from National Geographic that the Mayan calendar will end in 2012. I'm dead scared and of course want to live more!
No, the world isn't going to end in 2012. The claimed 2012 doomsday is a hoax. Everything the scam artists are saying about 2012 is a pack of lies.
The movie 2012 consists of unscientific BS that had been invented for the 2003 end of the world. It is fiction, and not even good fiction.
The Mayan calendar doesn't end, it just ends a cycle and goes on to the next. The Maya didn't predict anything for 2012. They didn’t make prophecies and the end of one cycle and start of another was an event to celebrate.
The people talking about all the signs of the end times happening now don’t realize that they have been happening throughout history.
The History Channel doomsday schlockumentary consists of lies, half truths, and wild speculation.
There were no ancient prophecies concerning 2012. Nostradamus never mentioned it. No one predicted it before the hoaxers started claiming it. This was after their 2003 doomsday failed to occur on schedule and they needed to keep selling their books and assorted doomsday garbage.
None of it is said or supported by scientists.
All the claimed astronomical events are either impossible or have no effect on us.
The Solar maximum is now expected to occur in May 2013 and to be less energetic than average. It could interfere with electronics and communications.
We aren't going to have any alignments aside from the apparent alignment that occurs every year at the December solstice.
Geomagnetic reversal (polar reversal) takes hundreds to thousands of years to occur. We wouldn’t even feel it happening.
Nibiru doesn't exist. It came from Z. Sitchen's misinterpretation of ancient Sumerian references to the planet Jupiter. Even Sitchen didn't claim it would come back in 2012 (he said 2085). Nancy Lieder, who hears aliens in her head and originally said her "Planet X" would be here in 2003) took over Sitchen's imaginary planet and changed her doomsday date to 2012 when her original prediction failed.
That covers most of the absurd claims. The world will still be here after 2012, along with most of us.
All these claims are absolutely lacking any basis in real science. They are being put forth by hoaxers who, as famous astrophysicist, Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson so diplomatically put it, "didn't take enough science in school." There were no ancient predictions by the Maya or anyone else until the scam artists started making them up in 2003. After 2012 passes, they will simply dust off their old predictions, tack on a new date, and continue watching money roll in from the gullible. The YouTube video is Dr. Tyson talking about the 2012 silliness.

2012 The World Is Coming To An End ...Really?!
What are your thoughts on doomsday 2012 ? Is the world really going to end ?
Ok so all i've heard about is the whole end of the world in 2012, the more i read about it the more it's starting to sink in. Floods and earthquakes are happening now so could this be a sign?
It's actually starting to get to me now and i'm feeling quite scared mostly for my son (who is 6 months old atm).
What are your views ? I'd love to hear from you as fear is starting to take over my habits
YES! The world WILL end, but certainly NOT on 12/21/2012 or any other time soon! Yes, there ARE a lot of earthquakes, severe storms, floods and other disasters - as have been happening since before recorded history. I get Email reports of ALL earthquakes around the planet of Richter 4.5 and over, and there have been a lot - but there have been a lot for a lot longer than I have been getting the reports. (You can get them too - go to www.usgs.gov and sign up.) But there are several things predicted in The Bible - the ONLY 100% reliable predictions - that have not yet come to pass, so relax, cool your jets and quit worrying! There may be social changes, but things won't end in your lifetime or mine - or your son's. Get a Bible and read Revelations, and compare to what's happening now. Much has to happen before "The End"!
