The world wont come to an end, just go through some radical changes. If you're a believer, why even worry about it? I hope the age does end in 2012, Im ready for a just and righteous ruler and real peace. Why is 2012 and 2013 the end of the world?
I have heard about 2012 and 2013 hoaxes. Why would they do one year right after the "end of the earth". To me this doesn't make sense. Try to explain this th me. The 2013 hoax is not as popular as the 2012 hoax, so you may not of heard of it. I'm not scared, just want to know.
I haven't heard of a 2013 hoax. Maybe some of the 2012 hoaxers are starting to realize that it's too easy to disprove their claims, e.g. about "killer solar flares", so they've pushed it back to coincide with the predicted solar maximum.
Basically anything that sounds dramatic for the next 2-3 years, somebody's going to say "Aha! That proves the 2012 prophecy!" Since there are many earthquakes, landslides, hurricanes, etc every year, there will be plenty to choose from.
And apparently any time anything is in the news about the sun, that sounds scary so they use that too. We had millions of questions about the "solar tsunami" because some idiot in the news media used the term to refer to a very modest class C3 solar flare that caused some nice aurora displays a few days ago.

No, not at all. Please don't worry about what you might have heard on TV, the radio, the Internet, or in the movies. Their reasons are all bunk.
The sad part about all the 2012 uproar is that so many of its components are recycled. Just about any of the astronomical "catastrophes" have been the subjects of warnings before this. The likelihood of any of those occurring is 0. Solar activity varies on a 10.7 year cycle. No particular problems before, none likely now.
The same is true about weather "catastrophes". There are always floods, fires, etc. and there is always someone who'll point to them and say "Doom is at hand!".
The only thing new that is brought to the table is the Mayan long-count calendar. The turnover of the longest component of that calendar is about as important as New Year's Eve. All it says is the current cycle ends and a new cycle begins, period, end of story.
Since there are a couple of phenomena that involve the magnetic poles (NOT the geographic poles), let's look at both. First, over time the location of the magnetic North Pole moves. This is a short term phenomena that has been known since 1831 and has been shown to move almost constantly. Geological studies have shown that the North and South Magnetic Poles have reversed many time in the past. It is a process that takes thousands of year to occur, it could be happening right now and we'd never know it. It never destroyed the world and there is no reason to think it will in the future.
Mass die-offs of animals are really nothing unusual, see below. It just happens that some die-offs got more publicity than usual, that's all.
Are you worried about "all the earthquakes we've been having"? You shouldn't be. According to the United States Geological Survey, in an average year there are 134 large (Magnitude 6.0-6.9) 15 major (Magnitude 7.0-7.9) and 1 Magnitude 8.0+ earthquakes. There have been two big quakes near the US last year, so there is more publicity then we might usually get.
The point here is that things are getting worse. There is not a single "disaster" that is out of the ordinary. I am sure that for any given year, you could match what we've since since 2010. The real difference is that communication is so much more intense today because of the Internet. The news cycle gets so short that it seems we go from one bad thing to another. It just isn't so.
So what will happen? The world will go on. A lot of worried people will feel stupid. A lot of stories will run about the big anti-climax, for about a week or so. And the main hoaxers, will quietly slip out of sight, to reappear in a few years for the "next end-of-the-world" scenario, likely 2029-2033: the 2000th anniversary of the Crucifixion (year depending which chronology you accept).

so im bored and i look up stupid things at work i was reading something a few weeks ago about 2012 being the end of the mayan calendar and something about solar alignment so that got me to thinking... what the yahoo answers population thinks of this? if u arent sure what im talking about just type in 2012 on google and read up a bit... my personal opinion... its just like the y2k scare... not real haha i believe alot of these "dooms day" people live to feed this junk to the public.. then they make a book and try to sell it lol o well hope we get some good responses... 2012 geophysical and cosmological speculations
John Major Jenkins and others [10] claim that an alignment will occur when the sun rises above the horizon on December 21 2012, at which point the sun will rise in the middle of the Milky Way Galaxy, thus causing an alignment between the earth, sun, and the galactic center.[11] It is claimed that this event will cause numerous changes on Earth. However, the event is only a visual phenomenon from the earth's perspective, which is caused by the precession of the equinoxes or the 26,000 year wobble of the earth, and thus only changes our perspective, not the actual position of the earth in relation to the galaxy. In short, there is no gravitational force or radiation to be expected from this event because other than the tilt of the earth, nothing will be any different from what occurs in any other solstice. There are also claims such as those of Michael Tsarion [15] that an actual physical alignment of our entire solar system will occur with the horizontal plane of the Milky Way Galaxy on that day. The solar system is moving around the center of the galaxy every 225 million years or so, and while doing so is moving up and down in a cycle crossing the plane every 33 million years. According to the Journal Nature, however, there is evidence of the solar system crossing the galactic plane 3 million years ago. This would mean that we are moving away from the galactic plane, not toward it, and we will not be due to cross it for another 30 million years.[16]
There are also theories that a currently unknown planet, sometimes referred to as planet x or Nibiru, which supposedly has an odd orbit that only enters the local solar system every 3600 years will return in 2012 causing many problems. [17] The idea is traced back to Zecharia Sitchin's translations of Sumerian texts, and specifically to his interpretation of the VA 243 cylinder seal, which he says shows that the Sumerians knew of 12 planets (sun, moon, and ten others). Among other possible scenarios is that a shift of the Earth's magnetic poles may occur, and that this will leave the earth vulnerable to harmful radiation from the sun.[20] According to NASA magnetic pole reversal does not occur on a particular day or year, but over the course of thousands of years. Furthermore, the magnetic field does not vanish during this natural cycle, but becomes more complex as it makes the transition.[21]
Some proponents of the pole shift scenario claim that this shift would be a physical movement of the poles of the earth, and not simply a magnetic shift. This event is called a true polar wander. Earth has experienced a few degree shift in the past, but nowhere near a reversal, and there is no reason to suggest this is likely or even possible. According to William Sager, a Texas A&M Oceanographer, a slight shift in the physical pole occurs at a rate between 5 and 10 degrees per million years, which means that this event could not happen on a particular day or year but only over a long period of time. 2012 is claimed by some with New age beliefs to be a great year of spiritual transformation (or alternatively an apocalypse). There is disagreement among believers whether 2012 will see an end of civilization, or humanity will be elevated to a higher level.[23]
Many esoteric sources[who?] interpret the completion of the thirteenth B'ak'tun cycle in the Long Count of the Maya calendar (which occurs on December 21 by the most widely held correlation) to mean there will be a major change in world order.
Several authors have published works which claim that a major, world-changing event will take place in 2012:
* The 1997 book The Bible Code by Michael Drosnin claims that, according to certain algorithms of the Bible code, an asteroid or comet will collide with the Earth. Drosnin also states in his book that the Bible code only predicts possibilities.

* Terence McKenna's numerological novelty theory suggests a point of singularity in which humankind will go through a great shift in consciousness.
