Why did the Mayans predict the 2012 prohecy and not the arrival of the Spanish?
Ok, so 2012 may not be the end of the world, but surely if these guys were predicting truly astronomical events like the end/renewing of the world, then they could have predicted the arrival of the good ship Catholicism and its tyrannical method of controlling everyone it encounters? Did they not even make a small footnote on their calendar?
The main reason is the Mayan calendar doesn't actually predict the end of the world - not in 2012, not at all.
The Long Count calendar simply clicks over to the next cycle (called a "bak'tun") in 2012. Scholars have calculated the calendar into our current calendar system as far as the 16th bak'tun (which is 4772).
Seems to me that if the world was going to end in 2012, their calendar would actually say that and then simply end...

Why do people discredit our ancestors like the Sumerians and the Mayans about 2012?
