mayans 2012 Question about the Mayans and 2012? I know you are probably tired of these questions but please answer?
Have the Mayans had any predictions in the past that HAVE NOT come true?
They predicted when was the best time to plant their crops and a few repeatable astronomical events, but that's about it. A bunch of nutjobs trying to claim that the Mayans predicted the end of the world in 2012 like to embellish their claims with all sorts of lies about the Mayans - never a wrong prediction, calendar the most accurate ever, etc. It's all a load of baloney.
The Mayan Long Count calendar clicks over from 12.19.19.17.19 to 13.0.0.0.0 on 21st December 2012. That's all there is to it. It's the same as our calendar changing from 1999 to 2000.
All the doomsday predictions attached to this date are, without exception, unscientific nonsense, perpetrated by frauds and hoaxers.
say the earth did not end on the 21st on the year 2012....
what do you think the Mayans would think?
i never said it would!!! im just trying not to be offensive
Put it in our terms: Say the earth doesn't end on 31 Dec 2009...
The 2012 winter solstice date is the end of a long count. That's the same as New Years for us. That's all it is.The Mayan calendar has three cyclic counts
The true "end" of the Mayan calendar is
"41,341,049,999,999,999,999,999,994,879 years in the future"
As for the "doomsday 2012" stuff:
"Sandra Noble, executive director of the Mesoamerican research organization FAMSI, notes that "[f]or the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle". However, she considers the portrayal of December 2012 as a doomsday or cosmic-shift event to be "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in."
As quoted in USA Today (MacDonald 2007).
You stated your question with an unsupported conclusion. That the Mayan calendar somehow "ends" in 2012. That's not documented by fact.
