add links also please

The Mayan Long Count Calendar is amazing. It is said to be more accurate than our current calendar. However, the majority of reputable and prominent scholars discount the "doomsday theory" argument.
It mentions a few dates that come after December 21, 2012. This is just the end of the 13th Buku (sp?) and the start of a "new cycle."
The calendar is extremely accurate and it is amazing to know how in touch the Mayans were with astronomy and the earth, especially for being so early in recorded history.
"Maya stelae occasionally show dates beyond 2012. Most of these are in the form of "distance dates", where a Long Count date is given with a distance date to be added. For example, on the Tablet of Inscriptions from Palenque the following Long Count date was found: 9.8.9.13.0 8 Ahau 13 Pop (24 March 603 Gregorian) with a distance date of 10.11.10.5.8. The resulting date is given as 1.0.0.0.0.8 5 Lamat 1 Mol,[11] or October 21, 4772 – almost 3,000 years into the future.
The king Pacal of Palenque predicted that on this date the eightieth Calendar Round anniversary of his accession will be celebrated, suggesting he did not believe the world would end in 2012.[12]"
Despite the publicity generated by the 2012 date, Susan Milbrath, curator of Latin American Art and Archaeology at the Florida Museum of Natural History, stated that "We [the archaeological community] have no record or knowledge that [the Maya] would think the world would come to an end" in 2012.[13]
"For the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle," says Sandra Noble, executive director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies, Inc. in Crystal River, Florida. To render December 21, 2012, as a doomsday or moment of cosmic shifting, she says, is "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in."[14]"
Here are three dates argued to be when the Mayan Long Count Calendar began:
8 Sep 3114 BC (Julian) = 13 Aug 3114 BC (Gregorian)
6 Sep 3114 BC (Julian) = 11 Aug 3114 BC (Gregorian)
11 Nov 3374 BC (Julian) = 15 Oct 3374 BC (Gregorian)
In short, humans don't need some special or magical force to bring about the end of our species, we can do that on our own quite well. The world will end one day, yes, but it won't be for a long time. Now, does that mean the world we know will not be destroyed? Not at all. It may be almost completely thrashed, but we will live on, just not in the way we're used to living, like today. A lot less structure, order and balance, but life will go on. The Mayan Calendar merely is switching to a new counting period, sort of like us switching to a new millennium in a way, but not quite.
Pretty much every year there's a group of people that think that world is due to end for whatever reasons..... This is one of those BS reasons as always.
maya 2012 What are the actual facts about the Dec.21, 2012 maya calender 'rolling over' or ending?
Because it is so hard to separate the facts from the religious crap. that i dont know whats really going on.
Will the earth get knocked off its axis?
Will the sun change its axis?
What planets will really align in 2012. Venus,Mercury, saturn.
What happens when the suns new 24th 'sun spot' change thing happens?
And just basically what will happen 2012 comes threw?
Will the maya calender really end, or a new cycle of sorts starts?
If it does end, Why?
What does NASA and the GOVERNMENT(s) think of this?
What does Nostradamus really predict about 2012?, and not what the media is hyping up about it.
good work Brian
I would strongly advise you to not attempt to get 2012 information from the internet. It is exactly because you (and most people) know so little about the subject that so many of these lies are being purpetrated on the web. 95% of what you will find are fabricated lies. If you want true information about the subject, seek out works by John Major Jenkins. He is the primary researcher who has devoted the last ten years to studying the calendar and the Mayan culture. Junk on the internet has popped up in the last 3-4 years by fear mongers.
I wish I could be amused by the stuff being presented but there are many such as yourself who are confused by it all and unnecessarily frightened by things which will not and could not happen. Google the Mayan calendar cycles. The Mayan were astronomers and mathematicians who calculated when the sun would appear to rise when the Milky Way was low on the horizon. That's basically all that this 2012 stuff is about. Just something to look at. No more.
