if you were in the middle of no where with all trees and a lake and you got to chose 5 survival items, what would it be? and why ?
1) Magnifying glass (lighters run out of fluid, I could us it to start fires for the rest of my life)
2) One of my dogs, probably my herding dog (I live on a farm, dog is for companionship, hunting partner, and of course protection, and for his fur when he sheds).
3) One of my dairy goats, preferably pregnant with a buck kid. She could turn plant matter I cannot eat into milk I can consume. A buck kid could get her pregnant again for another lactation, and eventually be butchered for his meat. I could also harvest the cashmere (the soft undercoat of goats)from them spin it to yarn by hand, and make fishing line, or even knit things like hats to help keep me warm.
4) Dutch oven. That's a cast iron pot that has a lid & handle I can cook in, and purify my water in, if I cannot trust the lake water.
5)My hunting knife that is made from high carbon steel. It was forged by a gentleman about 60 years ago, and he knew what he was doing. The best knife I've ever owned.

survival dvd A Leaving Cert Survival Package, to encourage him and show I care?
My boyfriend of two years is doing his leaving cert exams (for those not in Ireland, they're exams at the end of high school that basically decide your whole life!) and he's a little stressed to say the least. I'm the year behind him in school, and I feel so helpless.
I want to send him a package in the mail with things like chocolate, a letter, a dvd he said he wants, things like that to keep him going and to give him something to look forward to at the end of his 2 wks of exams! But... I don't know what else to put in it!
All ideas will be greatly appreciated, so start shouting! Thanks everyone
Also, kinda relevant, I won't see him for a month around this time, so that makes it even harder...
These ideas are great though, thanks
Write him a romantic letter, maybe his favorite snack, like home made cookies? A picture of you, (not naked, just a nice picture lol) or a pic of both of you to put in his room. A new shirt, maybe even pajamas as well. Or, new swim trunks, with a promise to take him to the beach when he comes back. Hope i helped, good luck to you both!
p.s also maybe a cd, or itunes gift card if he has an ipod.

JDOG'S DVD DUNGEON - GEORGE A ROMERO'S SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD review part 2
How to get rid of the fear of climbing?
When I watch the great Dan Osman on youtube and see the stuff he did, it inspires me. Not to be like him but he just seemed so free. Free from his fears and the burdens of life.
I want to get into rock climbing and I have been a few times indoors recently. I want to enjoy the rush of climbing a big rock one day but I am worried that I might be so scared I could not enjoy it. Because I am afraid of heights I think I would be in survival mode the whole time.
I saw a trailer for a rock climbing DVD and the guy in it said "Rock climbing doesn't scare me. I hate being scared. I rock climb because it is just so fun."
So how do I get rid of my fear?
Would prefer rock climbers (or anyone who over came their fear and I am talking FEAR) who have actually been scared of climbing before. Do not need advice from someone who does not understand where I am coming from.
Your fear is what keeps you alive.
Personally I will not climb with people that claim they aren't afraid. To me that says they are not willing to make sure everything that is meant to keep you alive, is in place. It says that they may be a little more careless "not worrying about the important things" then I want them to be. As you are looking at it, fear can also keep you from doing the things that you want to most. So you need to learn to control your fear, not get rid of it. This is done by slowly introducing things that may be unfamiliar a little at a time. Climbing indoors may have seemed scary the first time you tried it, but you became used to it. So is it in the outdoors. Looking at a huge craig with multi pitch routes or a steep crimpy climb that seems impossible will only add to that fear. Get on low easy stuff, top rope it until your comfortable. Go with friends that are willing to teach and not push you. Don't worry about what you can't do, focus on what you can do. It won't be long until you have moved your comfort level up a little bit.
I know the first couple of times I am out in the beginning of a season, I'm doing a little of the fear of being in high places dance as well. And I've been climbing for an accumulated 20 years.
