food for survival How is it that some people can afford to buy drugs but can't pay their bills and buy food for survival?
I was just reading the newspaper and I see all the drug charges that some people have for buying drugs. I don't get it. If you can buy drugs, why not use the money instead to pay your bills.
1) The drugs have so badley messed up their minds that they can no longer prioritize and think straight.
2) Drugs are their only one desire and priority when they're addicted. They know that they have to pay their bills but they're so dumb and irresponsible that they would rather waste their money on drugs.

survival foods What is the best survival food with long shelf life? ?
I want to start stocking up on survival foods (freeze dried, vaccuum packed, stuff like that). I would like to make it home made, I have a dehydrator, or food I can buy at the grocery store. Thanks.
They have found grains hundreds and even thousands of years old that were stored in a dry dark environment that still germinated and grew. The key here is a cool dry place devoid of light. In such a place grains and plant seeds can be kept for decades. Dry beans, rice and corn kept very well some nuts do however some nuts do not.
I keep food grade 30 gallon barrels full of rice, beans, corn, flour, powdered milk and 5 gallon buckets with many other dried foods. All are in sealed containers kept in a root cellar.
Canned good can be kept for a few years but dried foods keep much longer.
Meat can be jerked with a high salt content and vacuumed sealed for several years.
Unopened vinegar, maple syrup, cooking oil, and other such things will last for years in the unopened factory container.

survival food storage hurricane season is amongst us. are ya'll ready?
hurricane season is approaching and every year my fellow gulf coast residents prepare for the big one (remember rita?) they run to the store and buy all the supplies and water and other non perishables weeks before it even begins. normally i dont prepare too much but my question is does anybody here have a hurricane survival plan? any special tips they would like to offer such as evacuation routes, supply storage,. etc. ive lived in houston and louisiana my whole life and survived a lot of storms but with the economy being so unstable and with gas and food being so expensive, any tips we can share with one another would be nice.
Being prepared is the best thing you can do. Take a tip from campers. Get a large storage tote with a lockable lid. Fill it with necessities, canned food, a small propane stove,a sleeping bag, bottled water, toilet paper, some flashlights, a small radio and batteries. You might also want to put the originals of any important papers in there as well. We lived in South Carolina for 15 years, remember what Hugo did to us. Running out at the last minute is never a good idea. Those who do always buy milk and perishables that require refigeration. Herre's a link to help:
