2012 calander Why do you think the Myans ended their calander in 2012?
I am not asking you if you believe that the world will end. I am asking why do you believe that they ended their calander, because we know for a fact that they ended their calander in 2012...your answer can be "because the world will end" but it can't be "it didn't happen", because it did.
Maybe they knew something we don't know!
There has to be something mystical/special/significant about that date/number. How do they express the year 2012?? I'm not so up on the Mayan language as to know how they expressed their numbers. Maybe the way the date is interpreted has some significance.

The cycles do not stop there, the calendar is then reset. We reach the end of the fifth 5125 year cycle, completing our galaxy's revolution around the centre of the universe, and will thus start the journey again. Where the whole 2012 thing comes in is that on that date, 21 Dec 2012, our world is supposed to be the closest to the centre of the galaxy that it will ever be, and receive some enlightened information from it. Rebirth or whatever. I don't expect anything radical to happen, but I'm also not saying nothing will happen. I'm keeping a very open mind on this topic.

does the mayan calendar correlate with mental changes in humans? like for instance, there are 7 cycles and we are in the fifth?.. do the cycles before in the past match up with an actual evolution of the mind in terms of when we as primative humans went from one cycle calendar to another?
Here is one current example where the Mayan Calendar was used to forecast an economic outlook based on what the calendar predicted about human consciousness.
By knowing that our conscious mind works in cycles, the Mayan calendar was used to predicted the collapse of the monetary system (paper money) we are experiencing today. The Mayan Calendar predicted that our minds would begin to shift from Left-side thinking to Right-side. The Right-side of our brains does not fully grasp the concept of value in abstract things like paper money, but rather prefers more concrete things like gold.

The Evolution of Consciousness cycles will repeat nine times in the course of time in ever decreasing periods of time, From the "Big Bang" until Dec. 21, 2012. Here are several "initiating phenomena" from the past seven of nine cycles: Industrialism (1769), Written language (3100 BC), Spoken language (100,000 yrs), First humans (2 million yrs), First monkeys (40 million yrs), First animals (850 million yrs), Matter 'Big Bang' (14-16 billion yrs).
Each of the nine "Underworld" cycles in turn repeat seven "day" and six "night" cycles of different ruling deities. And yes, we are currently in the fifth night (god of darkness) of the "Galactic Underworld". On the fifth night of the previous cycle "Planetary Underworld" (1769 to 1999 ) we had World War One (1914 - 1919). It would be interesting to research what happened on the fifth night of still another period earlier: During the "National Underworld" Cycle, the fifth night would coincide with about the time of Christ: Any Ideas as to what happened then?

Not fact - wishful thinking. The planets can't align like that at all, also the sun is not aligned with the center of the galaxy at all at the 2012 winter solstice, it is 6° off.

The mayan calendar is projecting this alignment to occur in the year 2012.
First, the Mayan calendar isn't predicting anything. It is simply ending one cycle and starting another one.
Second, a galactic alignment and a planetary alignment are two different things, neither of which is happening in 2012.
An actual planetary alignment never happens, because the planets' orbits are not in the same plane. Planetary alignments are apparent alignments only in our view of the sky. The planets are closer to alignment now than they will be in 2012.
There is an apparent galactic alignment every solstice (twice a year).
