please include something to back you're reasons

No evidence worth a hoot at all for it.

2012 Boilerplate answer No 3.
The details behind 21 December 2012 make no sense at all. The originator of the so-called prophecy studied at the University of Chicago in Arts more than 40 years ago. He was Jose Arguelles then. He now says time is faster than light (whatever that means) and that the way we measure time is harmful to all life on Earth (how does that work?).

He now calls himself Valum Voltan and says he is the re-incarnation of a Mayan priest and lives in New Zealand, last I heard. All this stuff was based on the fact that a Mayan count of days runs out of numbers on 21 or 23 December by our calendar. That has as much to do with the Mayan counting system as anything else. The Mayans counted by 20, then by 18s then by 20 again and so on.

The Mayans were pretty fair naked eye astronomers for a stone age people and had enough sense not to predict anything at all, except maybe party time. I reckon they were smarter than Arguelles.

But crazy as Arguelles ideas are, he did not say the world would end on 21 December 2012. All he said was that this would be the beginning of a new era. That was about 20 years ago.

Since then, people who are just as batty, but in a different way have grabbed his ideas and run away with them. Terence McKenna was an habitual user of mescalin, LSD or magic mushrooms and wrote down visions. He also produced a special (mis)interpretation of the I Ching, and when it didn’t quite fit 2012 he fudged it.

Another called Nancy Lieder claimed that aliens had abducted her about 1993 and told her that a planet called X would pass close to the Earth and cause a magnetic pole shift and other damage. That would be in 2003. Since it didn't come, she started making up stories of how it was a trial to test the governments of the world and that the planet would appear later. She usually says 2012 as far as I know.

Apart from Voltan, Mc Kenna and Lieder, others have jumped on the bandwagon and have predicted everything from bees dying to collisions with stray planets. There are supposed to be alignments with the other planets or the centre of the galaxy, a photon belt, crossings of the galactic central plane and on and on none of which will happen. And dear old nostradamus and Edgar Cayce get quoted too, as if anyone believes that stuff.

The promoters of this, including the History Channel are vicious liars and only in it for the money. They are trying to sell "survival" supplies, shelters, books, videos and what all, but to do that you have to frighten people first.

The End of the World Mayan

the end of the world mayan
the end of the world mayan
Why do people say the Mayan calendar is predicting the end of the world?

All it is is an astrological calendar, which is ending it's cycle, so why do people insist it's the apocalypse. I mean the calendar can't go on forever!? And how could anyone predict the end of the world?? There's no proof and no possible way, can someone give me a real reason to believe in this scam?

There is always a bunch of cranks going round predicting the end of the world every few years. A history of unremitting failure doesn't deter them because they are desperate for your attention. They have 'important information' which you should know and which the 'government' is trying to cover up. In reality, they haven't the faintest idea about science and all their predictions can be shown to be false by anyone in possession of two or more brain cells.
Some of these cranks may be genuinely mentally ill and in need of help but worse still, a bunch of crooks have latched on to their rantings as an opportunity to make money from the more simple-minded in society by selling them useless survival guides and equipment.
After the world fails to end in 2012, the next date will be set at 2018 or 2020. Not too far ahead or people won't be interested. Just enough time to get the new books and DVDs about the latest 'end times prophecy' on sale. And don't forget the movie.

End of the World 2012 Science

Posted in Surviving 2012 by admin on September 5, 2010 No Comments yet

end of the world 2012 science
end of the world 2012 science
how much science is there behind the 2012 end of the world theory?

Quite a bit of science. Unfortunately for the 12-tards it all says that "end of the world" is a hoax.

Nova, a theory is more than an unproven guess. Perhaps an hypothesis is more like what you are thinking. Science has its own lexicon, some of which get used (incorrectly, we scientists feel) by the general public.

A scientist starts with a hypothesis, like "I wonder if adding red dye to the soil will make plants absorb more sunlight?" Then he begins to collect data, running experiments designed to separate out any variables except the one he is testing. After that he examines the results, using a whole lot of math to show if there was indeed any difference between the dyed samples and the undyed ones.

Taking the results and using them to support or knock down his hypothesis will lead to a "theory" about dye in plants. Oddly, it can go either way, which is why "bias" is so important to avoid if you are doing science. You shouldn't start with "I want red dye to show that plants absorb more sunlight" as this will skew your data. Yet another reason to disbelieve in aliens...

When some kook says "In 2012 a giant space squid will eat the Sun" science will examine the premise, create an experiment to verify the existence of the Squid, then show, either mathematically or through observations exactly how unlikely a astro-cephalopod is to exist.

Scientists warn us about will really happen in 2012

Is the world really going to end in 2012?

I'd really apprecite it if the answers inluded the history of Mayan calendar , their predictions, the science behine this phenomenon, etc. Thanx!

Haha...
Okay - here goes.
The world is not going to end in 2012. The history of the Mayan calendar is that it does not predict an end. It is a repeating sequence, just like the dates in our annual calendar. And what happens after December 31? January 1. That's right - the cycle begins over. This is what the Mayans would have predicted with their calendar. They may have had a party, but they wouldn't have prophesied the end of the world.
If you actually read up on the Mayan calendar, there isn't a clear consensus amongst scientists when the cycle begins or ends. Only one possible date is 2012.
There is no science behind this phenomenon. This was made up prior to 2003 to sell books about the end of the world occurring in 2003. When it didn't, the books were rewritten to include the date of 2012 only because it coincided with some understanding of the Mayan calendar - oh, and because it was a nice safe 9 years in the future, so there would be plenty of time to make money before they had to rewrite the books yet again with a new spin.
The movie 2012 is more based on the 2003 version of this hoax, but with references to the Mayans thrown in (along with the title) to feed into the hype of this whole YouTube and History Channel phenomenon.
Next question!
