OMG!!!! Is the end of the world going to happen in 2012? Oh No! I HOPE NOT!! PLEASE ANSWER! I AM SCRED!?

Okay I am scared Jeevesian! I was wondering, is the world going to end in 2012? I need to know! Wait why don't I just simply go to Jeeves for Jeeves provides!

Lets find out shall we, sons and daughters of Jeeves.

**Below Lord Jeeves chronicles his discoveries to me about 2012.**

The Long Count Calendar of the Ancient Mayans ends on Dec 21 2012. There isn't much information regarding what the Mayans thought would occur in 2012, but the consensus of opinion is that there will be great change. To some people this means a positive, spiritual change. Others, like myself, consider that a catastrophic event may have been predicted.

Nothing will happen. The whole thing is an invention by a bunch of frauds and crackpots trying to get you to buy worthless books and videos. None of it has any basis in real science. The people promoting this have no knowledge of science. They just like to pretend to be knowledgeable in order to impress the gullible. Don't be one of the gullible.
There is no 'ancient prediction' by the Mayans or anyone else. These were all invented in the last 20 years.
There is no 'mystery planet' about to pass by. Why don't the fraudsters tell us its current coordinates? You decide.
There will be no alignment, either planetary or galactic. When was the last alignment that caused us any problems anyway?
There will be no pole shift. A magnetic pole shift is not imminent and probably tens of thousands of years away. A sudden rotational pole shift is a physical impossibility.
The next solar maximum is expected in mid 2013, not 2012 and is expected to be less intense than the last maximum in 2001.
Other predictions such as the photon belt and Terence McKenna's Timewave Zero are just too silly to bother with.

When did the mayans start their long count calender?

and why did they choose that year and date. It ends on 12/21/2012, i forget when it starts, something like 3XXX bc, can somebody please xplain this to me as thoroughly as you can.

The current cycle began on 0.0.0.0.0.1 Ahua. (The Mayan calendar is read right to left.)

What that equates to in the Gregorian calendar is anyone's guess, as there isn't a "Rosetta Stone" that cross references the two calendars. The best guesstimate for today's date is 12.19.15.7.19.1 Cauac (26 June 2008). Tomorrow therefore, will be 12.19.15.8.0.2 Ahau.

The best way to describe the Mayan calendar is wheels within wheels. There are 20 Kin (days) in a Uinal. 1 Cauac and 2 Ahau are both "day names". I don't remember how many Uinals in a Tun or a Baktun, etc. But as each "increment" returns to the start, the next "cog" on the wheel revolves.

If the Spanish invaders hadn't have been so gungho about converting the South Americans to Christianity and burning all their books, we may have a better idea of how to correlate the two calendars. But if the above calculations are correct, then Sunday 23 December 2012 will equate to 13.0.0.0.0.4 Ahau ... and will mark the beginning of the 5th cycle of the Mayan long count.

Coast to Coast AM: The Twelve, 2012, & Mayan Calendar 2/4

Do you believe that 2012 is doomsday?

Am I silly for being a little scared about all the hype around the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar predicting the end of the world, on Demember 12, 2012?

Does anyone else wonder about this?

I was a little scared too, because History channel makes everything sound real. In fact, all it really means is that the calender must be reset as they measure their time in baktuns and this "baktun" count ends at 13. This counts up from their "day of creation". Their time is like decimals, so it would look like 13.00.00.00.00 on December 12, 2012 as that corresponds to 13 baktuns. All it means is to reset the calender, and in all Mayan finds, no correlation between doomsday and resetting the calender has been found, except for their belief in cycles, or when a flood or some sort comes and wipes things out. No evidence has ever shown this happening. Ever. So, instead of thinking of it as doomsday, think of the Mayan's resetting their calender.

On a side note, if you think the Mayans could predict doomsday, why didn't they predict their own demise way back when?

Hope it comforts your fears.
