Why do people take speculation to be fact?
News reports that say things like: "Iran test fired a missile today that could carry a nuclear warhead" are obviously geared to make people believe Iran is evil without "lying" exactly. Obviously it's a reporters job to get their articles read, but I would like to think the public is more educated than to believe speculation to be fact.
What about a news report that said "It is rumored that the US is now building a doomsday device that will destroy the whole world"? That's equally as valid a statement as the first. Are we all sufficiently terrified yet?
May sound off topic, but a secondary q is, are Americans (and white people in general) more apt to believe brown people are evil out of a racist mentality to some degree?
