When and what were some of doomdays that didn't happen?
What were the dates people thought the world was going to end? And could you also say what was supposed to happen or why people thought it was going to happen.
Well, January 1 1000, some people thought would be the beginning of the thousand year reign of Christ on earth, which follows the battle between Satan and his angels against Christ and his angels. This belief was probably limited to the educated groups, since most people would have had no idea that it was January 1, 1000.
William Miller believed that the second coming was imminent. Though he was reluctant to put a date on it, some of his followers pressed him to set some kind of date. He chose March 21, 1843-March 21, 1844.
The wikipedia page on Miller is interesting. He based it, as most apocalyptic writers do, on calculations based on Scripture.
One of the big problems there is that the Bible isn't very specific on dates. We can use archaeology to try and find out when the Israelites left Egypt, but its only an approximation, but most of our religious calendars are based on this. It begins the Hebrew calendar, and the Hebrew calendar is the foundation of the calculation of the birth and death of Christ.
I skimmed the wikipedia article, and it appears that Miller at least went into Hebrew and Greek texts for his information. These are not commonly taught in schools as they once were, though I imagine they are still a part of seminary curricula.

I saw that commercial today. I just laughed, and then I saw a little box that said "This film is not yet rated." Yes, IHC is a promo for the 2012 movie.
Yeah, she beats up some bad guys, but I have to be honest and say that this movie is a major disappointment. It's not nearly as cool as it looks from the previews.
They dropped two bomb , the first one is just the warning but the japan didnt surround so US drop another one to end the war.That's right.
