"In Aztec mythology, Huitzilopochtli, also spelled Uitzilopochtli (Classical Nahuatl: Huitzilopōchtli [witsiloˈpoːtʃtɬi] "Hummingbird of the South (on the Left)", or "Left-Handed Hummingbird", huitzilin being Nahuatl for hummingbird), was a god of war, a sun god, and the patron of the city of Tenochtitlan. Why is Aztec/Mayan Indigenous culture supressed?
I have heard people say that hispanics are just a conquered people who are looking for a lost sense of identity.
During the spanish conquest the aztecs religious material was burned and their cities destroyed, their people whipped out.
If people want to reconnect with the ancestors of their land who
before european arrival were a thriving people with deep respect for animals/nature/the spirit world, what is wrong with this? Are hispanics not intitled to their culture, or what is left of it?
Many people have lost their identity. What makes it even more difficult is that now many have identities from various cultures since they no longer are of one race.
Sure, anyone should have a "right" to live as they see fit, but if a powerful influence is interested in their land, resources and labor, then they may find it necessary to fight to keep their way of life. And if that powerful influence has developed more powerful weapons then what the others have, then they may have to give up their life in the fight to keep their way of life.
Further, if the indigenous way of life is not profitable to the new comers, then the new comers may have to find a way to eradicate that way of life completely. So what if it is a clean and sustainable way of life, if it does not leave money in the pockets of those interested in amassing wealth, power, and control, then it has to go in their eyes.
If anyone has a problem with that, then they may find themselves looking down the barrel of a big gun like so many native people have encountered. It's a fierce machine and very difficult to stop. Money, It sparks greed and the root of evil: It will drive one to kill and then self destruct if the appitite for it is not controlled.
