How many of you think the 2012 apocalypse will occur?
As for me,
I think that December 21, 2012 sounds like a very scary date.
People "say" that they're already taking precautions for this deadly date.
The 5,000 year long Mayan calendar comes to an end on 12.21.12.
But do you think the world will really come to an end?
actually, the calendar is only 5000 years old if you squint a lot.
the Mayans developed their calendar and just fudged in most of it, which was a good thing for them as shortly thereafter, their whole civilization collapsed, back about the 8th or 9th centuries AD.
Was it a good calendar? Sure.
Did it predict the end of the world? No. Not even a little bit.
Why are so many people convinced it did?
Basically, a nutter named Jose Arguelles (the one that thinks he is a reincarnated Spanish Priest from the 15th century... AND the one that tried to sue the UN... yeah, him) wrote about how the Mayan calendar "ended" in 2012 and how we were all gonna die! Well, all the rest of the Mayan scholars disagreed but here we are... proving that people will believe almost anything!

What is the date of 21.12.2012 when converted to Islamic calendar?? :-/
The Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar so we cannot even be sure of when the next month begins, let alone specific dates years from now. Our months are 29 or 30 days in length depending on the sighting of the moon.
Yes "somewhere between 29 & 30" may not sound very precise for a 1,400 year old calendar, but according to wiki, each lunar month is on average approximately 29.530589 days long. 29-30

I think the Mayan calender will reset for another passage of 5 thousand years. I think astronomers will study the alignment of the earth, sun and black hole in the milky way. I think meteorologists will study the tides. I think TV news will make reports. I think a lot of people will go to church.
