Anybody ever lived in the wilderness for a long term period of time in North America?
Wondering if anybody has ever lived in th wilderness for a long period of time. Primitive living? If so, what locations? I have been into camping and learning survival skills for the past 10 yrs of my life and now since i lost my job and everything i have owned due to the recession, now would be the perfect time for me to try my hand at my long time dream of living in the wild.i have all my supplies and plans, but i have run into this wall for sometime now, LOCATION. i want it to be legal and somehwere ill be left alone and a place i can build my permanent shelter and grow food for the year i plan to spend there.My main concern is stayin within all legal laws,as in not trespassin on private lands or national parks.
northern california near the oregon line was where i did this...
my information is pretty old but as of twenty years ago, outside of alaska, there were no places like this that were legal...most of these free land sites are scams...you can check them out though...
you would be better off trying to find an acre of two for cheap (mine cost 1,000)...and you are going to need money, more money than you might imagine...and warm(er) weather...and you are going to have to be healthy and stay that way...any moderately serious accident (think axe, hatchet) could kill you...
i'm not saying don't do it, but what you are about to do is very, very difficult...of the hundred or so i have known who have tried this, only 6 made it past the first snow and they started off with a large bank account...i had lots of help getting started...with the cabin, and the crops...and you will need a high tolerance for boredom and a repetitious diet...
a quick google gave me a few site for land under 1,000/acre

places like montana are large and lowly populated. You would have to contact the local government near the area you think you would like to stay, and ask where you CAN stay. You can also hunt there, if that is your thing.
