2012 end of life on earth Can/are sunspots going to destroy the earth in 2012?
One of the many ways that people have come up with about the earth ending in 2012 is Sunspots. I know they can mess with satellites and power grids but can the actually destroy the planet and all of human life?
CAN -- No
ARE -- No
Out atmosphere and magnetic fields were designed by God to protect us from sun spot flares -- even major ones. You can WATCH God at work if you can see the northern (or southern) lights.
But these solar flares CAN do serious damage to things like satellites, and possibly even airplane electronics. it COULD be possible for a really huge sunspot to damage almost ALL satellites, destroying cell phone communications, TV, Internet, and weather forecasting all over the world, costing BILLIONS to replace them.
Airplane electronics could be destroyed, possibly causing loss of radar, ground communications, or in very sophisticated planes even the control systems, causing the to crash.
But while LIGHT from the sun takes 8 minutes to get here, sun spot material takes days or even WEEKS to get here. Thus, the effects can be measured and some protective measures could be taken, like grounding ALL airplanes on the day the flare hits earth. Live would be saved, but the repair bill would be enormous!
Could a solar flare damage the earth itself -- no. The sky will NOT light on fires, and trees will not catch fire.
As for 2012 -- that is ALL complete B----S---, designed to sell magazines to people who are scientifically ignorant, or to tell stories to little children into scaring them to be good.
Unless you are scientifically ignorant or a little child, then 2012 should not bother you at all.

Probably not.
Ever since the 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) End of the World scenario did not pan out, the scare mongers have been touting the 2012 End of the World scenario. When 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else.
"But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come." (Mark 13:32-33)
Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.
Each new Christian denomination seems to worry about the end of the world a bit too much. Then after a couple of centuries, they realize that there are always wars and rumors of wars, etc.
I won't even mention the hundreds of false predictions of the end of the world over the centuries, all of which were based on individual interpretations of biblical prophecies.
The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. Only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.
The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus' advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.
Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everthing happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time.

The movie which is about the end of the world was supposed to show both the Vatican and Mecca be destroyed. Now Sony and Roland Emmerich have chickened out, fearing for their lives, and instead of destroying one Christian and one Muslim landmark, will destroy two christian ones, the Vatican, and the Christ the redeemer statute in Rio.
I'm an atheist, but I take offense to some goat herder in Tora Bora telling me how I can live my life. It took hundreds of years of provocation of christianity to gain freedom of speech - I'm not willing to give it up that easily.
Whether you are christian, atheist, agnostic, hindu or whatever... will you please boycott this movie so we can hurt Sony financially and teach them a little something about freedom of religion and freedom of expression?
You're upset because of his choices in destruction porn? Not that the viral marketting is traumatizing children?
It's Roland Emmerich, it's not like he's made some great piece of art and now he's compromising it, he's just doing what he thinks will make the most money. And the destruction of Christian sites are going to resonate deeper with Christians. Remember, the mood is "oh no, everything we hold dear is being destroyed."
I'm not going to boycott it, I'm just not going to see that trash. Paying a hobo to hit me in the face with a shovel would be a better use of the money.
